What makes sworn translation different
A sworn translation is not simply a translation signed by a professional. In France, it must be produced by a translator registered on the official list maintained by each Court of Appeal (Cour d'appel) and published on the government's court registry. The document bears the translator's official stamp, handwritten signature, and a certification clause attesting to accuracy and completeness.
Administrative authorities, notaries, civil courts, and most public institutions in France will only accept sworn translations for official foreign-language documents. This applies to birth and marriage certificates, academic credentials, criminal record extracts, company registration documents, and any document intended for use in a legal or administrative proceeding.
