The Paris region concentrates an exceptional demand for professional translation: international organisations, European corporate headquarters, law firms, financial institutions, and publishers. What we observed was that the quality offered did not systematically match the sophistication of that demand.
Traditional agencies organise projects by availability and language pair. A pharmaceutical dossier might go to a bilingual literary translator. An acquisition contract might be handled by someone whose professional background is tourism. The linguistics are correct; the subject matter comprehension, not necessarily.
